Battlefield Golf Course at Legends on the Niagara

Written By: Shane Jensen on Mar 11, 2008

The Battlefield Golf Course at Legends on the Niagara Golf Club was designed by Douglas Carrick, who has exclusively built golf courses in Canada. The major challenge of building this golf course was creating a masterpiece on a flat piece of land. The first step in this design was to build a 19-acre lake that would provide all the water for the entire property.

The Battlefield Golf Course is filled with numerous water hazards and pot bunkers that sometimes are hidden from the golfer's view. For the most part, the golf course is fairly wide open with large greens and generous fairways. This golf course was designed to hold professional tournaments and in 2004 it held the Women's Canadian Open.
Most of the fairways on this golf course are narrow and serpentine and you may require a little local knowledge to find the fairway. The deep bunkers that line the fairways will cause problems for any golfer and need to be avoided at all costs.

With four sets of tees, this golf course plays from 6,271 yards to over 7,300 yards from the back tees. The Battlefield Golf Course is one of the best conditioned golf courses around and is located about 15 minutes from the Falls for which the area is named. The large undulating greens are fast and smooth, and knowing the correct pin position will save you a lot of strokes.

Water comes into play on six of the 18 holes, with the final three holes of the front nine bordering the man-made lake. Each of these holes has water playing down the entire left-hand side of the hole, so if you slice the ball you should be alright. Though standing on a tee with water can sometimes make your swing do some funky things.

If you can get past these three holes with a par you will have a great time on the back nine. There are only two par-4's, from the back tees, that play under 400 yards. When you are choosing which tee box to play keep in mind that the ground here can be soft and offers little roll for the ball. Playing from a shorter tee position will greatly enhance your enjoyment of this golf course.

As Niagara Falls continues to grow as a destination, the number of quality golf courses will continue to flourish. The Battlefield Golf Course at Legends on the Niagara is a must-play if you're looking for golf in Niagara Falls.
